Our Views on the Value of Homework:
- It is a useful extension of school-based learning;
- It gives students the chance to practise skills without the time pressures and distractions
of the classroom;
- It allows students to research, to develop their understanding and to reflect on
their studies;
- It develops independence on the part of learners.
And in Practice this means:
- We often set it, but we aim not to set it simply to meet the demands of a timetable.
There has to be a genuine learning purpose to it;
- All students should expect some homework every week;
- We ask students to record their homework in their planner, so that their parents
and form tutor can monitor it;
- If a student does not do a homework task we aim to give them an opportunity to catch
up during break, lunchtime or after school. We routinely insist that they take this
opportunity;
- We provide homework clubs for all students, run by our friendly student mentor team.
Do contact us to find out more about them. Every student is entitled to join a homework
club if they or their parents wish it.
