Our Views on the Value of Assessment
- Everyone needs to know how well they are doing in order to do better;
- Both staff and students can have a useful input into assessing students and their
progress;
- Good quality assessment means we can set sensible but challenging targets;
- It is worth putting a lot of time and effort into getting assessment right.
And in Practice this means:
- Every student will routinely receive useful feedback on their work on a day-by-day
basis. They will also receive detailed written feedback on their work at least once
every half term;
- Every student will have regular opportunities to self-assess and to compare their
work with benchmarks provided by staff. Sometimes the benchmark will be the work
of other students;
- We will send a summary of each student’s achievements and progress home once per
term;
- We welcome parental comments on and queries about their children’s progress at any
time. Parents do not have to wait until they have received an assessment.
